Genres and styles I play

When I first started recording and releasing music, It was mainly Hip Hop, Afro Beat and Pop influenced. I would find type beats on YouTube and record over them in GarageBand. Of course, I’d always listened to music from all over the place but at that point in my life I suppose that was the route I wanted to take. However, over the past couple of years I started listening to a more varied spectrum of music and started to appreciate the things I heard growing up and the music my parents would play. I also started playing instruments more again and got back into Piano, Guitar and took up playing drums just over a year ago now. My recent EP consists mainly of R&B/ Soul influences with a bit of Hip Hop and a hint of Jazz. It definitely felt much more organic and fun to make this project compared to my last. Last time it felt like I was making songs with a template and it had to fit a certain criteria and have certain characteristics. Of course I still have expectations – but especially with the lyrics, I got music more creative and a bit more careless. With my band – that is in the process of coming together right now, we plan to gig a lot of covers (and of course some originals). We plan to cover songs from the likes of Amy Winehouse to Jimi Hendrix, so a bit of R&B, Soul Rock and Jazz I suppose.
